Adult Roles

Choosing the right role:

Every adult registered in the troop should have one of the following four roles assigned to them based on the degree of volunteering and level of girl interaction they intend to do with the troop. The listed background check status and trainings are MANDATORY for that role. Failure to complete the training will result in their role being set to the minimum of Adult Member and their interaction needs to be limited to that level.

Adult Member – This role has no girl interaction outside of their own family. Being an adult member allows you to sign up to attend some official Girl Scout functions only with your child(ren), but you cannot attend troop meetings or activities.

Requirements: None.

Cookie Booth Helper – This role is the same as the Adult Member role except that you are also allowed to accompany your child(ren) at cookie booths. You cannot supervise children other than your own at that booth.

Requirements: Cookie Booth Sales Training

Friends & Family Volunteer – This role is for adults who wish to attend and/or assist during troop meetings and activities and support the Troop Leader role when possible. This also allows you to supervise children other than your own at cookie booths.

Requirements: Current Background Check plus the following trainings:
  • Foundations
  • Mandatory Reporter Training

Troop Leader* – This role is for adults who wish to work with their girls to plan a progressive series of activities. They are supported by their Friends and Family Volunteers to provide a safe and fun place for the girls to participate in their Girl Scout experience.

Requirements: Current Background Check plus the following trainings:
  • Foundations
  • Troop Finance
  • Mandatory Reporter Training
  • Grade Level Training

Additional Specialized Roles:

The following roles are additional levels of responsibility that can be taken on by an adult with the Friends and Family Volunteer or Troop Leader roles.

Troop Product Manager* – This role is the primary contact with the Service Unit Product Manager (SUPM) to coordinate all aspects of the Fall Product and Cookie Sales between council and the members of the troop.

Requirements: All Friends and Family Volunteer requirements plus the following trainings:
  • Troop Finance

Treasurer* – This role is responsible for all interactions with the troop bank account and associated digital money platforms. This role works with the Troop Leader and Troop Product Manager roles to ensure that all funds from money earning activities gets deposited and that the troop expenditures don’t exceed the bank balance. The Treasurers are also responsible for completing the Troop Financial Report at the end of the year.

Requirements: All Friends and Family Volunteer requirements plus the following trainings:

* Every troop needs to designate at least 2 Troop Leaders, 2 Treasurers, and 1 Troop Product Manager.  These roles can overlap, so your troop can run with a minimum of 2 adults if they share all of these responsibilities.
